FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The stylish and sporty 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is one of four updated or all-new vehicles the brand is launching this year as part of an intensive product initiative that will result in one of the newest and freshest showrooms in the industry.

Featuring a comprehensive exterior redesign that emphasizes its sleek and sporty appearance, improved interior and all-new infotainment and connectivity options, retuned driving dynamics, and more standard key safety features, the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross offers up an impressive combination of style, capability and safety, as well as an unbeatable value in the compact SUV segment.

Starting at just $23,395, the redesigned 2022 Eclipse Cross is now available at Mitsubishi dealerships nationwide.

Major Exterior Redesign
The extensive redesign of the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross results in a longer, sleeker and more luxurious compact SUV. The vehicle has gained more than five inches in overall length, now measuring 179.0 inches long, 71.1 inches wide and 66.3 (2WD) or 66.5 (S-AWC) inches high, while the wheelbase remains unchanged at 105.1 inches. Designers increased the vehicle's front and rear overhangs for both improved functionality (cargo capacity and rearward visibility) and to optimize proportions for an appealing, sporty aesthetic.

At the front of the vehicle, a new hood and bumper and the latest, most striking version of the Dynamic Shield grille design present a sportier and more futuristic appearance. A newly styled bisected-lighting design features thin, high-mounted LED daytime running lights (DRLs) at the leading edge of the hood with integrated turn signal lamps just below. Presenting a bold and broad visage, stacked-and-recessed assemblies combine headlamp and fog lamp in a low-mounted position for optimal visibility.

Revised Rear Design and Improved Tailgate
The sophisticated design has been carried through to the rear of the vehicle with a completely reshaped rear hatch and window that now offers an additional 1.8 cubic feet of cargo space and more functional storage than the outgoing model. Eclipse Cross now offers maximum total storage capacity of 50.1 cubic feet with the second row folded (49.7 cubic feet with the optional panoramic sunroof), and 23.4 cubic feet with the second row upright (23.2 cubic feet with the optional panoramic sunroof).

The sharply sculpted hexagonal liftgate is reminiscent of the company's iconic rear-mounted spare tire, a signature feature on previous Mitsubishi SUVs. Blending modern and elegant lines with a shape that harkens back to the brand's off-road roots, the design integrates the vehicle's iconic three-dimensional taillights, creating a wide and stable presence.

Interior Cabin Refinements
Inside the updated Eclipse Cross, the interior now offers a light gray leather seat option on SEL models to create a more sophisticated experience. The new interior color option is complemented by color-coordinated door trim, and a light gray leather center console armrest, leading to a high-quality and refined interior aesthetic. Other new features include an eight-way power passenger seat on the SEL model.

Driver and front passenger heated seats are standard on LE, SE and SEL trims, and heated rear seats are available on the SEL with Touring Package. The rear seats feature a standard reclining function, which offers nine postural positions.

Redesigned Infotainment and Available Embedded Navigation
A new eight-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio (SDA) system is available on LE, SE and SEL trims, offering drivers more ways to stay safely connected while on the road. The system features a redesigned software interface with an improved user experience that is easy to navigate. Base ES trims receive a standard seven-inch Display Audio touchscreen infotainment system.

The new SDA system, upgraded from a seven to an eight-inch touchscreen (LE trim and above), has also been moved two inches closer to the driver to give a better visibility and easier operation. The updated system now incorporates new volume and tuning knobs, improvements based on customer preference and feedback. The center console-mounted, multi-function touchpad from the previous model has been removed to allow for better ergonomics.

Additionally, an onboard navigation system with industry-first What3words integration is newly available on the Eclipse Cross SE and SEL. The What3words system is a global addressing system that divides the world into a grid of three-meter-by-three-meter squares, each of which are assigned a unique What3words address. The system allows pinpoint navigation, even in remote, unpopulated areas, offering greater accuracy and specificity than street address-based systems. The 2022 Eclipse Cross is the first production vehicle to be offered with What3words imbedded directly into its navigation system.

The top-line SEL with Touring Package adds to Eclipse Cross' infotainment setup with a 510-watt Mitsubishi Power Sound System (MPSS). Featuring eight speakers and a subwoofer, MPSS offers a clean, smooth and high-fidelity audio experience inside the 2022 Eclipse Cross.

Also standard on LE, SE, SEL and SEL with Touring Package are Apple CarPlay^® and Android Auto^™ integration, which offer drivers the ability to plug in their compatible smartphones and safely and easily access contacts, music, directions and much more while keeping their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel.

Eclipse Cross also offers an optional full-color Head-Up Display (HUD) on SEL with Touring Package that provides the driver with real-time vehicle information. The system consists of a full color LCD display mounted just beyond the steering wheel and close to the driver's line of sight, allowing easier driving by minimizing the change of eye focal length. The HUD provides driving information and critical safety messages to the driver, such as: speed, cruise control setting, Forward Collision Mitigation warnings, Lane Departure Warnings and paddle-shift gear position. The display includes separate brightness and height adjustment switches; the display can also be disabled and stowed if desired.

Expanded Availability of Active Safety Equipment
Continuing Mitsubishi's commitment to safety and value, every 2022 Eclipse Cross receives standard advanced driver assistance systems, including standard Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) with Pedestrian Detection and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) across all trims.

Those seeking the latest safety technology will also appreciate that Automatic High Beam (AHB) assist headlamps and rain-sensing wipers are standard on LE, SE and SEL trim levels. SE and above trims continue to offer other key safety features as standard equipment, including Blind Spot Warning (BSW) with Lane Change Assist (LCA) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).

New Improved Suspension & Handling
The changes to 2022 Eclipse Cross go beyond the sheet metal. Our engineers redesigned the suspension system to account for increases to the front and rear overhangs as part of the styling update. The suspension has been thoroughly refined, with retuned shocks and springs, including the addition of larger rear shock shafts for better ride control.

Engineers also addressed both bounce and rebound control to provide a smooth yet sporty ride, regardless of road surface. Additional changes include the rear suspension cross member now being connected by a double vibration insulator for a more rigid connection, offering a more planted feel than the previous bushing setup.

Responsive, Turbocharged Powertrain
Carried over from the previous model year, the 2022 Eclipse Cross comes standard with a proven 1.5-liter direct-injection turbo engine that offers a compelling combination of drivability, performance and efficiency. This turbo technology provides a potent blend of torque and fuel efficiency with 152 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 184 lb.-ft. of torque between 2,000 to 3,500 RPM.

A continuously variable transmission (CVT) comes standard on all Eclipse Cross trims and is intelligently tuned to compliment the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, seamlessly delivering power and efficiency in all driving conditions.

Super All-Wheel Control Inspires Driving Confidence
The redesigned 2022 Eclipse Cross continues to place great importance on driving performance and confidence. Every 2022 Eclipse Cross trim is available with Mitsubishi's proprietary, advanced Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, an optional upgrade of just $1,600.

S-AWC enhances both straight-line stability and cornering performance by precisely controlling the torque supplied to each of the four wheels. The S-AWC system is an integration of the vehicle dynamics control system that monitors each component around the 4WD system – Adaptive Stability Control (ASC), Anti-lock Brakes (ABS), and Active Yaw Control (AYC) – to distribute driving torque to the rear wheels and between right and left wheels by additional brake force and the electronically controlled 4WD system.

The system uses braking to control the supply of torque to the left and right wheels for improved stability and control. It's based on the same principles as the S-AWC systems in the Outlander and Outlander PHEV, and builds upon Mitsubishi's rally and off-road legacy of all-wheel control technology.

S-AWC also uses an advanced sensor monitoring system to detect driver and vehicle behavior. Sensor information is gathered from steering angle, wheel speed, engine torque, T/M gear ratio, yaw rate, longitudinal/lateral acceleration and brake pressure. Three driver-selectable modes are available – AUTO, SNOW, GRAVEL – to enhance the S-AWC performance and logic for specific driving conditions.

All of these components make up the S-AWC system, which is far more advanced than a simple 4WD system. The S-AWC improves traction in all weather, including snow, rain, ice, gravel and dust while also improving straight line stability and cornering performance.

Well-Equipped, High-Value Trim Levels
The redesigned 2022 Eclipse Cross is available in five well-equipped trim lines: Eclipse Cross ES, Eclipse Cross LE, Eclipse Cross SE and Eclipse Cross SEL. S-AWC all-wheel drive can be added to any trim level for $1,600.

Starting at just $23,395, the 2WD ES trim comes well-equipped with standard 16-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights and DRLs, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, a seven-inch Display Audio system with HD radio, four speakers, Bluetooth, steering wheel audio controls, and one USB port, Forward Collision Mitigation with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Stability Control, rearview camera, cruise control, single-zone automatic climate control, power door locks and windows with remote keyless entry, seven airbags and an anti-theft alarm.

Stepping up to the 2WD LE trim, priced from $24,745, adds niceties such as LED fog lights, heated side mirrors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, all-new eight-inch SDA infotainment system with SiriusXM11 compatibility and a three-month complimentary all-access trial, two USB ports, a sunglasses holder and Automatic High Beam assist.

Moving on to the 2WD SE trim, priced from $26,145, shoppers will appreciate additional luxury and convenience features, such as LED low- and high-beam headlights with automatic controls, power-folding side mirrors, 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels, an eight-way power driver's seat, synthetic suede seats, an artificial leather-wrapped shift knob, Mitsubishi Connect, an eight-inch SDA infotainment screen with embedded navigation and six speakers, dual-zone automatic climate control, FAST-Key keyless entry system, automatically diming electrochromic rearview mirror, electronic parking brake, fold-down rear center arm rest, and Blind Spot Warning with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Buyers can also opt for the $1,000 Panorama Package, which adds a power panoramic sunroof and black roof rails for a touch of sun and style.

The 2WD SEL trim, priced from $27,395, adds paddle shifters, a black headliner and pillars, standard leather seating, a heated steering wheel, a bird's eye 360-degree camera and an eight-way power passenger seat.

Shoppers who spring for the $29,495 2WD SEL with Touring Package will enjoy added luxury and technologies, including heated rear seats, 510-watt Mitsubishi Power Sound System with eight speakers, a Head-Up Display, Forward Collision Mitigation with Pedestrian Detection and  high-speed capability, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), automatically diming electrochromic rearview mirror with HomeLink, and standard power panoramic sunroof and black roof rails.
