All-New 2023 Outlander Plug-In Hybrid Offers 38 Miles of All-Electric Range, Dc Fast-Charging, and Seating For Seven
- Starting at $39,8451, the Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid charges into 2023 with bold exterior styling, improved all-electric range, seating for seven and the latest version of Super All-Wheel Control2
FRANKLIN, Tenn., May 9, 2023 – Long the world's best-selling plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)3, the all-new 2023 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid combines everything that has made the gasoline-powered Outlander so successful: bold styling, advanced vehicle architecture, award-winning4 interior, seven-passenger convenience and legendary Mitsubishi SUV capability. To this, the Plug-in Hybrid model adds an all-new version of Mitsubishi Motors' Plug-in Hybrid drivetrain, boasting more power and torque, greater all-electric range and the latest and most sophisticated version of Mitsubishi's confidence-inspiring Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC)2 all-wheel drive system.
From the entry-level 2023 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid ES at $39,8451 to the range-topping 40th Anniversary Edition at $49,9951, Mitsubishi's new flagship model is the best-equipped, most connected vehicle the brand has ever sold in the U.S. Additionally, all trim levels offer 38 miles of all-electric range, up to 420 miles of overall range5 and SEL and above models are the only mass-market Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles with DC fast-charging capability, capable of filling the 20kWh battery pack to 80% capacity in just 38 minutes.
The 2023 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid also features Mitsubishi's new "Innovative Pedal" technology, which allows near-one-pedal acceleration and deceleration, similar to full-battery electric vehicles. Unlike other applications, however, Mitsubishi engineers wanted to keep a similar feel to conventional gasoline vehicles' low-speed operation, so the driver is still required to use the brake pedal to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. Lifting off the brake pedal allows the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid to "creep" forward for parking and other maneuvers, as is common in any automatic transmission-equipped vehicle.
Bold Exterior and Refined, High-end Interior
The Outlander Plug-in Hybrid was crafted under the design language of "I-Fu-Do-Do," which means "authentic and majestic" in Japanese. This design ethos is reflected in the vehicle's bold proportions, muscular fenders, and chiseled lines of the latest iteration of Mitsubishi's "Dynamic Shield" grille. Standard 18-inch alloy wheels and available 20-inch wheels add a robust presence that emphasizes strength and security.
Inside, Outlander Plug-in Hybrid places a premium on comfort and convenience with class-above materials across the range. While both the ICE and Plug-in Hybrid models of the Outlander are equipped with a third-row seat as standard equipment, the design differs. The rear-most seat is a 50/50 split in the ICE model, however, the Plug-in Hybrid debuts a new design that folds the one-piece seatback forwards onto the cushion, then the whole assembly tumbles backward into a deep well in the floor. All operation is light and simple and can be performed with only one hand. Mitsubishi engineers and designers were able to develop the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid from the outset to be a three-row vehicle, which is what allowed the vehicle to be the only mass-market Plug-in Hybrid SUV to offer seating for seven passengers.
Technology and Connectivity
Offering more technology and connectivity than any previous Mitsubishi model, the 2023 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid features a 12.3-inch, full-color LCD digital driver display.
All 2023 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid vehicles come with Apple CarPlay®6 (wireless on SE and above) and Android AutoTM7 (wired) integration as standard. A 9-inch center touchscreen is also available, which includes a built-in navigation system, SiriusXM® compatibility, wireless smartphone charging, and Mitsubishi Connect with Safeguard and Remote Services and a 24-month free trial. Mitsubishi Connect is also available on models with the standard 8-inch center touchscreen. A 9-speaker BOSE®8 audio system is optional on select trims. Additionally, a 10.8-inch full-color head-up display (HUD) is available on SEL with Touring Package.
Capability and Confidence
The 2023 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid rides on a cutting-edge platform developed through its partnership in the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. The modern vehicle architecture offers a stable foundation for a more confident and comfortable driving experience. With hot-stamped, ultra-high tensile-strength steel used in key areas, torsional rigidity is increased by 33% over the previous-generation Outlander.
All models are equipped as standard with a new generation of the brand's signature Super All-wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system, allowing for greater vehicle control and increased driver confidence. The twin-motor system, utilizing the gasoline engine and front motor to drive the front wheels, and a stand-alone rear-mounted motor to drive the rear axle, boasts a combined 248-horsepower and 332 lb./ft of torque and achieves a 64 MPGe (miles-per-gallon equivalent) rating5.
